John Greenwell, Co-Director

John Greenwell was elected to serve as the Co-Director for the San Diego Leadership Alliance after his two year term as Co-Chair of the SDLA's benchmark program, the SDLA Institute. He is also an alum of the Class of 2012 of the San Diego Leadership Alliance Institute.
By day, John is an Academic Coach at Arroyo Vista Charter School in Chula Vista. In this role, John coordinates the school's staff development, monitors teaching practices, and facilitates continuous assessment of student progress. John also serves as a Global Education Ambassador in the San Diego region to assist other educators plan international trips for their students. An avid traveler, John has visited over 20 countries on his own, but is constantly planning his next international adventure.
John earned his bachelors degree in Philosophy and French Literature from Fordham University in New York City. As part of his undergraduate work, John studied in a French immersion program in Quebec, Canada as well as in an intensive Arabic program in Fez, Morocco. He then earned his Masters of Science in Education from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.
A native of San Diego's East County, John also serves as one of the leaders of the San Diego chapter of Gay For Good, the nation's only all-LGBT and ally volunteer organization. As an active member of the Young Professionals Council and a graduate of the Young Professionals Council Academy in 2012, John continues to highlight the amazing work of the San Diego LGBT Community Center. He is also in the Leadership Circle of the San Diego LGBT Community Center. John is also a founding member of La Mesa Conversations, a new civic group that organizes a series of public programs and social events. A recipient of San Diego Metro Magazine's "40 Under 40" Award in 2015, John continues to volunteer for various progressive, community organizations throughout the San Diego region. In his remaining spare time, John enjoys hiking, swimming, watching movies on Netflix or Hulu, and reading.
