Dale Mcenany (he/him)
Dale Mcenany is from the South Bay and a first generation college graduate with a strong interest in the intersection of race, migration, and public infrastructure.
During his time at Columbia University, he interned for local progressive politicians, worked for an education nonprofit, and was a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow. Through this fellowship he conducted archival research at SDSU on the San Diego Trolley to understand the system’s legacy of anti-Mexican racism. His writing has appeared in the San Diego Union-Tribune, Chalkbeat, and Streetsblog California.
After graduating, Dale pursued an MPhil in Race, Ethnicity, and Conflict at Trinity College Dublin as a Harry J. Carman Fellow. In Ireland, his research focused on analyzing the creation of professional associations among the Brazilian diaspora and how identity-based organizing along class lines can facilitate uneven assimilation within immigrant communities.
Since returning to San Diego, Dale has remained engaged in local civic life, with a particular focus on public transportation and regional equity. Through interviews with community advocates and a mixture of in-person as well as digital organizing, he has engaged with hundreds of people throughout the region on relevant topics such as MTS’s looming service cuts.
Outside of his community involvement, Dale enjoys playing chess, hiking, exercising, and exploring San Diego!
