Woman of the Year, Rebekah Hook |
Assembly Speaker Toni G. Atkins of the 78th Assembly District recently announced the 2015 Women of the Year honorees and two SDLA members made the list. In the past, the speaker selected one woman in her district as the Woman of the Year in honor of March's Women's History Month.
In 2015, the speaker decided to recognize ten extraordinary women from different San Diego communities with input from local groups. Current board members, Rebekah Hook (2013 Fellow) and Midori Wong (2010 Fellow), were recognized for their contributions to San Diego and representing North Park and Downtown, respectively.
"The biggest thing I have noticed that is changing, is that young leaders--who are qualified and strong candidates--are being elected to serve the community. I think the norm was that people had to be a certain age, but all of that seems to be changing--and for the better," states Rebekah Hook in the San Diego Gay & Lesbian News profile.
Rebekah and Midori will be honored at a private luncheon for the awards ceremony on March 13, 2015 at the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa in Mission Beach.
