Black Lives Matter
To our SDLA community:
We grieve the losses of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, David McAtee, and every Black person who has been killed by racially-motivated hate.
The SDLA community has protested, marched, prayed, and demanded action in the wake of George Floyd's murder last Monday. We want to express our solidarity with the Black community, we believe unequivocally and with one voice, that Black lives matter. We will not ignore the injustices that pervade our community or this country.
Millions of Americans are rising up -- in anguish, in anger, and in search of justice. We stand united with peaceful protesters everywhere, and we condemn the passivity and ignorance of those who seek to divide us. We commit to living our progressive values: uplifting everyone to a position of equity and equality; that society should work for everyone, not just some; and that government can and should be a force for good.
As a community, we have work to do. Systemic, entrenched, and institutionalized racism has meant that the very premise of our society and government to serve the people does not yet ring true for Black Americans. We demand meaningful change. And at the same time we acknowledge that as individuals and as an organization, we still have much to learn and are committed to doing this difficult work today and in the years to come.
