Alondra Alvarez (she/her)

Alondra Alvarez grew up in North County San Diego and was the first one in her family to

pursue higher education in the United States. She attended Chapman University where she

received degrees in Political Science and Sociology. After graduating from Chapman, she

returned to San Diego and began to integrate herself deeply amongst immigration justice

groups across the county. Her first involvement in immigration advocacy was volunteering at the

San Diego Federal Courthouse. There she provided translation and court accompaniment to

immigrant families, as well as bearing witness and documenting ICE enforcement in the hallway

of the immigration courts.

Alondra now works at Universidad Popular as a Community Educator. Her work ranges from

tutoring citizenship students, training community patrol groups across North County to

document ICE enforcement, and assisting families that are directly impacted by immigration

detention. Alondra takes her experiences on the ground to fuel her advocacy. She continues to

speak out publicly in spaces of co-governance alongside local political leaders and sits on

steering committees that organize direct action across San Diego.

Alondra is also involved in the Democratic Party of San Diego and sits on the executive boards

of the San Marcos Democrats as well as the North County Young Democrats. In her free time,

she is the lead singer of the band Decades Apart and uses her musical outlet to pursue creativity and connection with her loved ones. Alondra’s passion lies in defending human rights and empowering those impacted by the immigration system.
